Who had fun today at MOTOGP? What a fabulous day. Woke early this morning and thought, feck it, let's go - I hadn't planned to, but I packed a rucksack, jumped on the old CB5 and off to Donny. Rucksack had everything needed.....sun cream, water, radio, shorts, flip flops, hat etc, and 20 miles from Donny, it's peeing rain, WTF?!? Got soaked, but arrived in good time, bought a ticket and straight into a good spot right at the fence at the Esses on my £10 chair. Sun finally came out to play and the sun cream was liberally applied to my Scottish blue legs. Racing was superb, I love watching the strokers, the lean angle and speed they change direction through the Esses is unbelievable. As for the GP bikes, it's the noise that gets you, (when you can hear them over the morons with the air horns). The Honda shrieks, the Ducati howls and barks, but the best by far is the Suzuki which sounds like it's going to explode up until the thump of the gear change on full chat, wonderful. A couple of T shirts, several diet cokes and a few ice creams and that was it. I stayed right to the end, or rather just as the safety car came out for the R6 Cup. I had parked right at the exhibition centre entrance, so off with the shorts and on with all the sweaty leathers which I'd left attached to the bike along with my helmet. It took me longer to get into my leathers than it did to get out of the circuit and I was home in St Albans with a cold beer in my hand by 6.40pm. Some bikers ride painfully slowly, sitting in the traffic as if they are a bus, never mind a car - what have they bought a bike for? Met up with a few peeps on my travels around the infield, had the chance of a paddock pass for the last couple of hours but couldn't be bothered with the long walk to get it. So back home and now trying to rehydrate with cold beer, it's mental hot in my house. Just watched the highlights, Rossi is still the man, but Dani's ride was like a celebrity exhibition ride. Talking of which, I must find the money to do a 'once in a lifetime' lap on the back of Randy Mamola on the Desmo - he flicks it through the Esses then pins it, wheel in the air......hmmm. What a cracking day. WeeJohnyB |

Yep, we had fun. Sue's first GP, 400 mile round trip (where on earth did the bike route signs send us ????) Ducati hospitality, sunshine, and home by 8.30 dry this year !!! |
I went to the day of champions at Donnington on Thursday with a riders for health VIP pass. Some friends were handing over a cheque too Randy Mamola. It was great to meet him. What a nice guy he is. I Hope to see the photo's soon. I was back up the M40 on Sunday morning for the GP... Boy was it hot. Great racing, fantastic to see Rossi get 2nd from 12th on the grid. Well worth the 600 miles. Nice to meet you and a few of the other DSC boys, was it hot. The start finish straight was so loud my ears are still ringing, not a good thing I know, but hey such is life. |
Yes, great day. Got there on Saturday and there was plenty of space in the camper van site. Got there just in time to watch the qualifying from Foggy's Esses. On Sunday, we were sat at Schwantz curve and watched all the races. On the cool down lap, we weren't close enough to marshal's hut and missed the track invasion much to my 8 year old's displeasure. After the last race we walked from Schwanz curve to Foggy's esses on the track and went back to the campsite for a cold one. I was truly dreading getting out of there. We set off at 6:15 PM and drove straight out without any queues at all! We didn't have to stop once! Seems like their improved traffic plans worked exceedingly well. This is the first time I went to the GP at Donny and hearing all the horror stories I was prepared for the worst. However, I really have no complaints at all. Toilets and showers were fine, plenty of loo rolls, plenty of cold drinking water from large tanker lorries. And great neighbours at the campsite. What a funtastic weekend! |
