Breakdown services: AXA-Assistance, Comments?

Just changed insurance suppliers over to Footman James and I notice their breakdown service is supplied by Axa-Assistance.

Just wondered if anyone has had to put Axa to the test for a bike recovery/breakdown (god forbid).

I imagine its just a distributed centre that uses local recovery agents of some sort but, how well do they handle bikes?

Cheers - Frank

you imagine right...would be interested in your experience if you ever use them

AXA will subcontract to any number of local recovery companies, just like any other recovery service that isn't the AA or RAC!

Chances are you'd get the same recovery truck if you were with AXA, Spectrum, Carole Nash, Bennetts, or any other insurer.

Just make sure you specify you have a bike when you call, and you are perfectly entitled to refuse recovery if you don't think they are competant enough, or have the right equipment.

Thats exactly my concern Antoyne, after some of the horror stories I've read of on here of bikes being strapped down in pickup trucks and ending up with more damage than they started with.

Fingers crossed.

I take it its foc as part of the cover....if so just buy some cover from a supplier you feel more secure with.

The point is that you'd have the same truck regardless of brand ... so unless you pay to go AA or RAC (who are just as useless, in my experience) then you're stuck with it.

Antonye is spot on, so much depends on the local agent. Had no probs in and a around York, both agents (Britannia Rescue) that have come out to me have arrived with bike specific trailers. Used em once for a crash and once for a breakdown!

How about trying International Rescue, ask for Brains, he will let you know what they have to rescue bikes, If you are really lucky you're local Agent will be Lady Penelope!!

Ray.
