Jap reliability - Hmmm Well my new CBR600RR is rather sick. I bought a new 600rr back in april becuase i needed something new and reliable that would cover large miles with no hassles and low costs. The CBR fitted the bill perfectly and would keep the miles off the old 916 and RC30. Well 3600 miles in, the poor CBR has taken a turn for the worst. Took it out on friday and all was well, came home and parked it. Went to fire it up lastnight and with a loud clonk sound it procceded to turn over quickly but not fire. Hmmm perhaps the starter has jammed and is not engaging ? so put it in gear and rocked it around a bit - still the same. well i suspect all is not well. It turns over very quickly (quicker than normal) and the oil light goes out when cranking as normal, but if i was a betting man i would say the camchain or primary drive in the box has failed resulting in a pretty dead motor and not something you would expect from an ultra reliable honda after 3 months of use. I hope to be proved wrong and maybe its just a simple ECU failure but it really doesnt sound to healthy thats for sure. So i think honda can have it back and put it right regardless, however i wonder where i stand if something major has failed in the motor ? perhaps someone can advise me ? yes i have done some serious miles on it, but its only 3 months old. I am far from willing to accept it being off the road for weeks on end and have a half cocked / built motor which some monkey has had a bash at repairing in a new bike. So anyone care to place bets on whats failed ? i hear lunched pistons and barrels are good on this year of RR5 Anyway all is not lost, i took the RC30 out and am glad i did too. they certainly dont build em like they used to thats for sure |
Sounds like the camchain to me. Hope you get it resolved pronto and with no grief. MMMmmmm i know what you mean about the monkey element. |
Sounds like a camchain, so it'll be e new engine if it was me, never like an egine where psitons have met valves, but it seems to have let go cranking not riding so may not be much damage? |
Yep new engine needed ! Honda will fit a new one and probably have your broken engine sent back to japan ! Age |
