Apple Airport help required

Soory to be so far off DSC topic but I have a dead airport and wondered if anyone knew how to open then up for an investidation?

Brute force or subtlety?

Give Gizmo a shout either here or on:

Michael seems to be a bit of an Apple Wiz

Well, i can do the networking side but have never took one apart...

think there are 3 torx screws on the underside which should split it, might be worth a chat to Derek on upnorth, he's the electrical wiz and also uses a mac.

have you checked its not the power supply before opening it up??

there are a few different versions of the base station and knowing Apple each will have its own way of opening.

We are talking totally dead here. No light at all. It's the remote airport wireless unit that hangs in a wall, 3 pin plug socket.

Ah, thats an Airport express, haven't got one here at work but have at home, will take a look tonight...

Many thanks. I have a feeling that it's a two halves snapped together jobbie.

Gizmo 28-Jul-2006 14:38

Sorted, it is in 2 halves but difficult to split

about half way down this link http://www.hardmac.com/news/2006-06-21/ has info you may find useful on opening it and replacing the fuse which sounds like it may be the problem,

http://www.vonwentzel.net/ABS/Dissec...ess/index.html shows the internals

Ugh, it looks like mine will have suffered the same sort of terminal failure as many others due to Apples' dodgy component selection. Ah well, shell out £89 for a new one I guess!

Gizmo, Many thanks mate. Supurb, although non Duke, tech support.

hmm, Apples selection of parts is linked to what consumers wil pay and the current trend is our expectation of more for cheaper :( sounds very similar to a certain motorbike maker who occasionally suffer component failures :):) I often wonder how i ended with Apple and Ducati as my 2 favourite brands :D
