Adjusting headlight for MOT Does anyone have a link to the data that I can use to set up the headlight aim in advance of my MOT? I used to have the distance back from a surface and the max beam height for that surface but I can't find it now. TIA, Rob |
'Sokay, I've just found it all in the Haynes book of lies. |
Hi Rob, mine was still well out (high and not enough left). If its anything like the SS adjustment - I put two nuts on the end of each horizontal adjuster and tightened them against each other, now - with a 10mm spanner I could adjust the left/right while at the MOT station easily - which is exactly what I had to do. Cheers - Frank (iconic944ss in stealth mode) ;) |
ps - the plastic surround is very fragile :( |
Beam setting (fig. 39.1) When checking the beam setting, put the motorcycle upright. Tyres should be inflated at the correct pressure and one person should be sitting astride the motorcycle, keeping it at right angles to its longitudinal axis. Place the motorcycle opposite a wall or a screen, 10 meters apart from it, then draw a horizontal line dictated by headlamp center and a vertical one in line with the longitudinal axis of motorcycle. If possible, perform this check in dim light. Switch on the low beam. The height of the light spot (measured at the upper limit between dark and lighted-up area) should not exceed 9/10th of the height from ground of headlamp center. ![]() |
