Diesel Okay, went to BP today and never again. Went to fill up and went straight for the BP ultimate which i thought would be good for the engine what i didnt realise is they use the same name for both there diesel and unleaded how stupid! Anyway didnt start the engine or turn the bike on and got it trailered home. Anyone know the best way to empty tank without stripping the bike down?? I noticed 2 pipes coming down from the fuel pump or tank can i just take one of these off and put a hose on to the metal end then suck out?? |
Hi, can only offer marginal help. have taken the tank off my 916 before, the two pipes i have are quick release so with only minor tinkering you should be able to get the tank off and then tip most of the fuelout. A manual will help after that or other people replying. could use the old pipe and suck techique though. Andy |
If i am right, (could be wrong) diesel should float on petrol so i would op for syphoning the tank if you were not totaly dry then you should not get any in your fuel pump |
Red light came on and did about 5 miles before putting £10 of the diesel! |
take the tank off its simple, then tip out the fuel..and wash it it again with petrol. I take it its a 749/999? |

The tank lifts off with the seat unit. They are bolted together with a 17mm bolt. Its easier to lift the rear and unbolt the seat first. This will give you better access for removing the fuel pipes and the multipin plug for the electrics.Dont forget about the breather pipes at the front of the tank near the ign switch. |
Okay will do thanks guys.. |
dont forget to grease your O rings on the plug in connectors before putting them back or you may trap and ****** the O rings |
