Petrol caps

Daft question but will a 900ss tank cap fit a 748?

Cheers Antonye. This means I've possible been stiched up :(
Bought a quick release fuel cap from fleabay, item was described as coming off a Ducati 900, it arrived today a doesn't fit.

Thanks again

Dave

What appears to be the problem?

The SS range has an outer ring as well, which you don't need for the 748/9*6 range. Undo the bolts at 12 o'clock, 5 o'clock and 7 o'clock and it should pull off leaving you with the bit you need.

If you look at the attached pic of my 600SS, you'll see it fitted with a 748/9*6 quick release cap in gold. The outer silver ring seals the tank and the gold quick release bolts into this.

If it was a 748/9*6 the gold part bolts straight to the tank.

Does that help?

It appears this maybe for a car. It doesn't sit flush with the tank and the metal outer is too big for the hole.

Yep, that deffo doesn't look right, unless it's from an early 900 SS ?

Jools 17-Aug-2006 16:28

Hmmmm....you and the vendor could both be right. My 1993 888 has exactly the same filler cap as my 2001 ST and all the 748's, 916's, Monsters and belt drive SS's I've ever seen, so they should be a direct fit.

However, if it's a quick release filler cap like the one you see on this 900ss, the buyers description might be right but it won't fit your bike

Great minds

Heyho. Got to take the rough with the smooth I suppose.
On the smooth side I bough some fairings in black and a seat unit, the seat is a genuine bip seat (I thought it was a copy) and it apears that the fairings are carbon. :)

Cheers anyway guys.

Stick it back on ebay with a more accurate description - one of the pipe'n'slippers brigade may well have it off you and you may even get more than you paid for it ;)
