If you are buying new, weren't there a lot of companies on the continent that do most/all of the legwork for you.

If you are buying a used car, I just imported an old car from Japan and it was pretty straightforward.
The hardest part was getting insurance quotes from companies without having a registration number.

Some help here http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/exptimpt.htm

do it yourself for FREE . . .

www.mobile.de - 500,000 cars - just type in what you want - try and get one from Germany - they are car mad!!!

Take Cash - do a deal!!

My broker (NU) only wanted the chassis number to insure it - when you buy a car in Germany (for example) the dealer/individual will give you 3 documents (a "breif" and a "shine" - I think they are called)- then you go to a local registration office, get some temp plates while you drive it back.

When you get back, as long as its over 6 months old you pay the DVLA £25 to register it - easy peasy!!!

I have bought 2 cars from Germany - LHD of course - excellent value.

I'm looking into buying a Mercedes E500/500E and have noticed that they are half the price or less in Germany, they're left hand drive only so it makes no odds where i'm getting it from.Kushy, that sounds very interesting can you be more specific about time taken to re-register in Germany (is it literally an hour type of thing) and abot what documents (if any) need to be shown at the docks/customs etc?
