Q about wavy discs My one and only friend Paul, some of you have met him, is asking me about his new discs, but I've not used wavy's b4 so not really an authority on the subject. Can any1 relate to what he's on about? His post might read something like this if it were pasted from his ClubAprilia forum!: ------------------------------------------------------------------ Just fitted a full set of brand new wavey discs and pads on my 03 mille - took it out for a quick test ride and was v dissapointed to say the least. After the initial 'sh*t where's the brakes' which I kinda expected for the first couple of times .. they did start to pull me up very well but ...the noise they make surprised me and also they are not very smooth .... almost give you a grabby on / off feeling as you brake hard ... As I only did about 10 miles they are no where near bedded in and i'm hoping this is the problem ... anyone reasuure me that this is normal and they will bed in ?? I have 280 miles to do this afty !! Hoping they will get much smoother ?? Paul -------------------------------------------------------------- |

 thats you off the chrismas card list then :p |
There is quite a range of "wavy discs", tbh. Some have a very good reputation such as Braking. There have also been some real cheapies being sold on Ebay mostly. I've heard some horror stories about them. If they are a quality discs and using the right pads, there should be no reason why they wouldn't equal a good standard setup. Presumably, he has bled the system properly and there is no air in the system. |
They're Stealth discs, they came with pads so would hope the disc/pad combo are compatible. Will the buzzing noise quieten at all as the pads mate with the discs? PAUL DUDE, CLICK HERE ---> http://80.243.187.66/register.php |
They are the cheapy ones, then. Have a read here: http://www.visordown.com/forums/show...hlight=stealth |

Don't beat around the bush Nick  |
I've been using BRAKING wavey discs for a couple of years now without any problems, also used by my mate Simon Knowlson on his 748RS race bike with good results (Bar pad wear) On the other hand Dallas had a brand new set of EBC waveys on his ZX10R race bike last year and they never did feel right, basically they showed the same symptons as you discribe |
Well he's just pottered off to cadwell for the weekend so should be plenty of miles to see if they just need running in. Even if they're cr4p, at least they look nice! |
i have a set of galfer wavy disks on my bike and i think they are really good. never had one problem with them. But i wud never scrimp of things like brakes as they stop you and hopefully ery well......!! |
yes, I have heard so many different things about waveys. A racer friend of mine put Galfer on and thinks they are brilliant and worth a second a lap, but others I've heard give a grabby efect, wear pads and vibrate/judder under heavy braking......but they do look the nuts. Expensive bling if they don't work like you want them to, which has put me off spending the money to be honest. WeeJohnyB |
