Cam Timing marks

Hullo.

I was just changing the belts on my 748, and all was going swimmingly until I noticed that the timing mark on the drive pulley coming alongside the mark on the crankcase doesnt coincide with the TDC mark in the window on the other side of the engine! The Haynes manual implies it should. It appears to be about 2 teeth out.

I noticed this after I had slackened the horizontal cylinders belt, but it hadnt moved on the pulleys. The vertical cylinder belt was undisturbed. The timing marks on the crank/cam pulleys on the v cylinder all lined up OK, but were out wrt the flywheel window marks. So I replaced the belts and tmed it up on the pulley marks, but now I am getting cold feet, and am worrying that the drive pulley is not properly timed.

Any ideas/advice?

Douglas

Mine don't either, when I do the belts on mine I just line up on the pulley marks too.

Nothing to worry about, if you get the timing marks right on all 3 pulleys (per cly.) then the timing will be correct. (well factory 'correct' anyway :))
