Your thoughts, opinions and recommendations re: New Duke. I had a chat with the wife last weekend regarding trading my Numpty in for a new Ducati, actually she suggested it to me and who am I to argue! :D She has now given me the ‘Ok’ to trade - in. What are your thoughts, opinions and recommendations ? I love the 996/998 and 999 equally for different reasons. My line of thought is, do I shop around to buy a new 999 now, knowing that there are good 0% deals to be had, and with the knowledge that the biking season for some is almost over, not that I’m afraid to get wet, that’s what winter hacks are for and the dealers will be trying their utmost to off load their stock at knock down prices to make way for the long awaited ‘New Models’. Do I search around for a good deal on a 999S (preferably a black Mono), later the model the better ? Or Do I wait to see the new 999S or its replacement when it is launched at the Milan Bike Show and wait to early next year for delivery, paying full price (RRP) during which time my Numpty would have depreciated a bit more ? What would you do ? Can you recommend a dealer who is doing a good deal on a late 999S ? Or wait for the ‘New Stallions’ to arrive ? Thanks in advance for your ideas and input. Cheers, Richard. P.S. I love the sexy single sided swingers on the 996/998 and also like the look of the black alloy (I think?) swinger on the late 999, however I’m not keen on the cast type swinger on the early 749/999. Mmm……decisions. Help guys….HELP. |
Richard, - my guess would be to go back to the dealer that you purchased the numpty from for the trade in, - most if not all will just go for book price regardeless of the extra's that you have on yours, - so start getting them off and get them up on e-bay. Trade in price likely best when buying brand new, - unless you are looking at a very special 996/998, - somewhere like ProTwins for one of those. Deals will be better on 999's that are on the showroom floor now, - expect to pay list on any new model that is launched. and I have pre-thought all of this myself as I am thinking of doing the same thing with my Numpty. |
Thanks for your thoughts Ian, its appreciated. Mmm....difficult decisions...... |
Richard, Whatever you buy new will plummet in value as soon as it hits the road, I know  You also have to take account of the 1100 (or 1098!?!) coming soon which will knock even more out of the value of a 999 and most of the 2nd hand ones will have negligible mileage and shiny fasteners as they dont get used all year round. Like Ian suggested, have a chat with your friendly dealer and see what they say, but shop around and get some comparisons to hit them with first. Happy to talk it through if you want to one evening mate ;) |
Thanks for your ideas and opinions Paul. I know what you mean and I too have been thinking about the new bikes with a bigger / upgraded engine (cc's) and new styling etc. I have already been in contact with Rob (W.M.Snell), Wilf (Moto Rapido) & I think it was Alfie (Ducati Aylesbury). I am waiting for a call from Rob re: Info. Good idea to have a chat in person, we'll have to arrange something. Cheers, Richard. |
Richard - Whatever people's views on the 999 shape, a mono S in black is a great bike. (I'd have one if I could). The new bike coming out may well lead to a good deal being had on an S. It then means its worth less on the road, but does that matter if you're happy riding it?! :) Dave |
Thanks for your thoughts Dave. I saw a subtle and tastefully blinged up black 999S Mono at W.M.Snells Open Day in their workshop, it was gorgeous and there was another one at the last Sussex meet....Nice, very nice. Cheers, Richard. |

Aint that the truth, think I would wait till November. If you have a winter hack already, why not sell your MTS just now privately and scoot about on the hack till winter and the good deals arrive Derek |
Thanks for your ideas Derek. Yes, I have my Aprilia Pegaso 650 (Rotax 655) to hack around on, so it could be done, however finding a private buyer who will at least match the firm offer (£4,250) I have on my Numpty from a dealer maybe a bit more difficult, but if there is anyone out there who wants a Numpty let me know. Also the 0% deals end in 4 weeks. Decisions decisions........ Cheers, Richard. |
