front discs and pads just want to pick some brains and get a few opinions. both my front discs are warped (have been checked) and i've got some new discs on the way. The pads on the bike have plenty left in 'em and the discs look brand new with no visable wear at all and no scoring. Do i fit the discs and go on my way or do i stump up yet more cash for a full set of pads? I know you are supposed change the lot but the discs (apart from being slighty warped) look new. has anyone else done this? any thoughts.... cheers |
warped discs I would ditch the pads as they may have suffered from over heating while your discs were warping on you. They may look alright but could be next to useless when you try to use them or might even knacker up your new discs. How much are new pads ? How much are new discs ? Just my opinion anyway. |
Despite the expense you should change the pads without doubt. Trying to bed in old pads onto new discs could warp the new discs, and you wouldnt want that. Also, if the pads have glazed and not working to their best, this may have warped your discs in the first place. Pads deteriorate with heat cycles as well as mileage, this is a common way to ruin discs. Also, if you put new pads in, then if you have any problems with the new discs you have some comeback. |
thought as much.. i'm not exactly a demon braker and they were warped from stone damage not heat on sh#ty [quarry like] roads behind trucks. there are a few tiny dents edge on. would this change anything? how much am i looking at for a set of pads, what make etc for a 749s |
Genuine Brembos from a Duc dealer will be about £55 plus vat per caliper (less your DSC discount if your a member) EBC and other generic ones will be about £30 per caliper. Race ones like Performance Friction will be more like £80. |
Have a look at the trade adverts in the forum |
