PC repairs - can anyoen help?
 

My Dad's PC has stopped working, it originally looked like it was a PSU prob, so I bought a replacement, but it still will not power up - I do get a small green light on the motherboard though.

It seems from what I've read that it might be the motherboard at fault, and ebay may be my best route.

Its a Emachines 2220, are there many types of motherboard that might be compatible? I'm not too concerned about getting exactly the same type, but want one that works.

Anyone got an expert opinion that I can speak with?

what processor and memory are you using? can you give us full machine specs from the documentation that came with it please.

common fault with a lot of these emachines tim, I've replaced 13 motherboards in them in the last 6 months.
They use pretty generic motherboards , not really a problem to replace it, just need to know the overall spec , or the model of the motherboard, worst case just the board layout and onboard options etc.

easy to source you one, but be carefull going down the ebay route , you can get a whole heap of probs to be honest.

easy replacement , best option would be to upgrade to a slighlty better board tim, but still compatible with all existing hardware. Not a prob eitherway.
Have quite a few boards in the parts rack, will check them out to see whats suitable, if you would like that is.

as a double check, can you take a digi pic looking down on board, and one looking at the rear I/O panel and ports, cant have too much info.

One of the small chips has "SeaBree" written on it, there are 2 DIMM slots, there is a seperate NIC mounted in a slot, can't get the heatsink off easily to check.

But sounds promising. - how much am I looking at for a replacement? any chance of a p/ex for a spare PSU? :)

these are lowend intel chipset boards tim, best option would be to upgrade to a better spec board but backwards compatible with existing hardware you allready have. From a cost point of view, its a better plan anyway, very little in it cost wise for a better spec board, and more reliable..
Only pence in it to be honest tim at this end of the market in desktop PC's.
