Running a 620 engine on carbs ?

Anyone know enough to comment as to whether a 620 motor could be made to run without the injection set up ? Carbs would obviously work but is the 620 ignition linked to the fuel injection ?

I don't know the answer, but for the sake of discussion...
Even if the ignition is linked to the injection i don't see why that would be an issue. The ecu would send a signal to the injectors, whether or not the injectors are there won't be fed back to the ecu would it?

I've spoken to at least one respected tuner that reckoned a well set up pair of FRC39s would do a better job than the injectors. They're not easy beasts to get set up though... and god knows what you'd need to do with the electrics!

Good luck. :)

Thing is if you have the 583 bike and a 620 engine but non of the associated 620 electrics what do you do ?
Fuelling is easy with a pair of carbs which leaves ignition, I suppose you could use the 583 pick ups and 583 ignition ? Another consideration would be an early injected 900 system as that doesn't have the costly immobiliser in it ? Things I say I'll do for people !

Doesn't have to be an early injected 900 either. I have a 2002 900ss as my road bike. It's the last of the 900ss bikes, before Ducati went up to the 1000ss. I have no red key or inbuilt immobiliser. I needed to fit a Datatool alarm/immobiliser for that level of safety! On the other hand if I lose all my keys I'm not totally screwed either...........

My older 1999 750ss, one of the first injected models, also didn't have the built in immobiliser, but I think there was something tricky about the ECU being one solid unit. You couldn't fit a new chip to it to change mapping etc. Nelly knows a lot more about this than me......

ask rich at louigi moto as this is what he did for the latter part of last year for the bike that dom rode
Luckily rich realised his error and the bike had the carbed heads removed and it now flies for hawk:cool:

It's great if you want about 40bhp.

couchcommando 18-Oct-2006 08:37

Why would fuel injection give more hp ? I'm assuming more was changed than just the injection for carbs ?
I guess project abandoned lol
