Fitting an oil cooler to a BP Would it be possible to fit an oil cooler to a 748BP? If you could, what would the advantage be? |
Should be possible. There should be a couple of plug in points on the right side of the engine, at the bottom towards the front. You will need to fit a diverter plate under the filter to direct the flow through the cooler. Advantage? Obviouslt the engine runs a bit cooler so your oil should stay good for longer. |
As a road bike there would be no advantage whatsoever, infact there could be disadvantages, such as the oil might not get hot enough, the cooler could get holes by stones etc. If it needed a cooler Ducati would have fitted one at the factory! |
Fitted one to my 748 bip with no problems but I had gone ahead and converted to 853, so thought it may benefit. ( I was caning it a lot back then!) Just need the blanking plate that sits behind the oil filter, oil cooler and all relevant oil lines. Job done. Can be a bit pricey if buying new parts though. I used quality second hand. DC. |

I fitted an oil cooler to my old 748BP and found that the water temp was actually hotter than it was before. I assume that the fitting of the cooler reduced cooling through bottom of fairing as there was a hot-rad there whereas before there was an open hole. I had no problems otherwise. RX |
