Hi,
Had the Duc a couple of weeks now and starting to get use to it...one thing how do you adjust the idle setting? i have just got in from a blat as the roads are dry and sometimes when i approach roundabouts?traffic lights the engine cuts out as the revs drop to idling, i noticed that when i got back the engine is idle speed is hovvering just below the 1000 mark,I am use to the jap bike where there is a idle set knob under the tank is there anything similar on my bike?

any advice would be great

I think you have to remove a rubber bung in the airbox under the tank to get at the adjusting screw.I could be wrong tho....

I have experience of this problem, on my 999s which i purchased new in sep 2004.

From the extensive discussions that i had with P&H and then Ducati UK I think its a known problem, where the idle drops a hundred revs or so and becomes unstable.

Not actually sure what the cure was as it took P&H 3 attempts, but i think it involves very careful setting up of the throttle bodies.

If your unable to fix yours i suggest asking P&H / Andy at Ducati UK.

Sorry its not a simple fix :-(

Same problem with my 749........ very annoying and in the end naturally carried just a touch of throttle when coming to a halt..... Im afriad it isnt a quick fix.... ducati dealer solved mine after much tinkering on my behalf seemed useless!!!

Thanks for the replies,
Leading on from this i find it strange that while i have the bike in 1st gear after it stalling with the clutch lever pulled in that it will not start unless i kick it into neutral,
All the jap bikes i have had allow you to start the bike in gear as long as you have the clutch pulled in.....is this something unique to Duc's?

So far as I know, as long as the side stand isn't down, a 749/999 should start in gear with the clutch pulled in. Has someone modified your bike?
When you say it won't start, do you mean the engine won't turn over - i.e. the starter motor doesn't turn?

yes it doesnt do anything, its dead until you put it into neutral.. weird eh!

Sounds like the clutch switch is not operating correctly.
Take a look under the clutch lever,.....see that little paddle switch?.....you may need to bend the paddle slightly.

Hi,
i have had a look at the metal strip poking out from the switch and it is running horitizontal at the moment i have bent it slightly out and in while holding in the clutch while a gear is selected and still nothing, i have noticed scratch marks on the fairing below it and i think at one time this might have been in contact with it .Can you confirm the position of this metal strip should be,

Hi, All sorted now ..went to the Hants regional meet at Popham and compared mine to another 999S and bent the strip back into position very carefully...nows starts in gear if the clutch lever is pulled in ...Cracking ride out weather was just right defo do again ...thanks guys for your input
