Time to switch to this High Definition Malarkey? - What's the Bobby?
 

I've been plasma'd up for a few years now and it might be time to invest in some new technology.

What's the story with this High Definition stuff? I've already got a smaller flat screen TV that's HD ready, but what should I get for my main screen?

Some Q's;
- Is HD all its cracked up to be?
- How many feeds are HD today?
- Is it better to wait until HD only TVs are out? (if at all)
- Is SKY HD worth getting?
- Any other technologies out there worth considering?

Any experience out there?

I've got a HD ready TV and a HD DVD player. DVD's look awesome. It helps to have a decent stereo to complete the experience.

I went for this TV: 32in LCD as it came recommended on the AV forum website and it was cheap. I don't have a massive lounge room so the 32 suits my needs. It only has one DVI (HD) input so if you wanted more than one HD source (DVD and sky for example) you'd need a a HD switch of some description.

I recommend you get on the AV forums and get some advice on there.

I don't have sky HD but I can see on the channel listings that there are more and more HD channels but I don't know what they're like - I haven't gone that way yet.

Good for DVD`s.

Dont bother for a year or two if its to watch sky or cable as the channels wont be ready for a few more years, at the moment there are 3 HD Channels.

And thats what I was told by someone who works in the broadcasting side of Sky.

i asked tp his advice on these atec systems,they are very good,2 year warrenty,so we bought a 37". just had a hd box fitted,bought it off ebay then got a man to fit it as the hd box requires 2 leads from the out side dish as you can record one chanel while watching another, now heres the tricky bit? the leads the hd box comes with are poor so we bought these component leads from comet/currys,they are fibreoptic with a life time warrenty,(£70-£90).the leads are colour coded & you require the sound ones too. the picture is much improved over the scart leads! sky do the footie games in hd but at a extra cost of £10 per month,i watched my first game the other week in hd as i bought a pay per view game (£8), the picture was amazing! im not paying the extra £10 as im happy with what i have at the mo,the hd preview on chanel 145 on sky gives you a view of how tv will be in the future,you must have hd box to view it. i went for the hd box as we wanted to record & hd is the way to go in the future.
