Gearing on the DD bikes... How important is getting the gearing right on the dd bikes...... It seems as thought alot of us are running different gearing.!...... 620's seem to pull ok on most sprocket sizes.!.... on the 583 i ran 2 sizes only...!! as it becomes more competative will gearing be one the deciding factors...I know on the 583 in 06 i did not give it alot of thought.! |
I ran 14/48 all season, until I discovered that I was faster using 'other' gearing. I ran 14/46 at Snett and 14/47 at Cadders. 14/46 for Jerez, but that was on slicks. Probably better on 14/47 on Diablos. Of course that's with a standard engine, so it will probably be all different again next season! May have to splash out on a 45 rear to make the most of the torque :o |

I can sell it (back) to you :D ...please don't ask me where it is though, I just round em off ;) |
I do need the 47t for certain tracks - just not sure which ones!!! I have the knack of getting the gearing wrong at each and every track. If I left it alone and ran 14/48 it'd be right somewhere!!!! Its like a broken clock compared to a clock that's 5 mins fast - the broken clock is correct twice a day, whereas the fast clock is never right !!! ;) Tim |

Having spoken about this with you earlier this year (albeit at the end of the season), this is without doubt a big area for you to sort out Tim. If you can cut out 30% of the gear changes you make, you'll probably find a second per lap everywhere!! ...and save on boot leather and peg rubber!! So it is important - everyone else listening! |
I try to change my gearing to suit the track and usually the conditions, my head must have been somewhere else when we were at Brand in April. |
I changed gearing a fair bit in my first year, I found it worked for me but to be honest I found that 14/46 on my 03 monster suited most places including Brands Indy and Snet! Yes the 620's will pull shorter gearing but there's still a limit. You can't go too tall with them otherwise you just end up nowhere and struggling. |
your bike doesn't need 6 gears, it's fast enough :D |

Daff Variomatic :o thats what we need:lol:  No need to change gear or anything just go for it.:frog: Mike |
