The winter strip down. Help!

My bike now looks like this

I'm trying to get the tank off atm but not sure what to remove I know mine doesnt have the quick release fittings

so what to I need to remove?

The allen keys or the hoses?

Martinp 03-Dec-2006 17:06

Sorry forgot to add undid the clips and the hose did not want to come off and allen key was budging so which is the right way?

I would have thought you could do either way if you have drained the tank, is it worth considering fitting the quick release connectors during the rebuild

Hi - the hoses have got to come off, as they wil be an item for re-newal somewhere in the maintenance life of bike. On a 749R the hoses are supposed to be replaced after 2 years, if you go strictly by Ducati regime. Try slackening the clips well off, spray the clips and hoses with some WD40 to allow the clips to slide back past any 'neck' in the hoses, then work the hoses off. I assume any electrical fittings have male/female connector for easy disconnection/connection. Remember to note which hose goes on which pipe !

Undo the allen bolts ANTI-clockwise! then the whole hose assembly will come away.

I would just undo the hose's and pull them off. Just make sure you slacken them right off so that that don't get caught on the bell end :-)

, I'm going to have another go at them on my split tomorrow, I think I'm going to spray some wd40 on the hoses as testastretta said, safest way for the bike and me ;)

Martin,

Just taken my 748R motor out for the 2nd time in in a month so drop me a line if you need help with anything.

Never said it before cos i'm fick....but I'm almost an expert at it now I've had to do it that many times!!!!!!!

Take the hoses off is the best way, the Ducati quick connectors are very expnsive, £50 plus, so if you are only taking the tank off every now & then, not worth the hassle or cost of getting the connectors. The 748 e models are those that come without quick connectors.
