Fitting Corse Oil Catch Tank? Anyone know if it's possible to fit the Corse underseat breather catch tank, without having to reposition the cpu and everything else, i.e. alarm, relays, etc. can they be squeezed in - as the bike's still being used on the road? Cheers, Pete |
I assume this is for your 996S, right? There are two kinds of carbon fibre oil catch tanks; a large one (58510182A) and a smaller one (58510182B). The latter is primarily meant for the 748 but I assume it does the trick for a 996 also. The smaller version leaves more room underneath the seat - hopefully enough to re-position the CPU and what not. I've got the large one myself but then again I own a 998 with its CPU placed by the battery so I didn't face the same problem as you do now. Good luck! |
I have one with the cpu above it and it all fits in (just) as above though if its the smaller one it will work if its the larger you have no chance |
I have one fitted to my sps hybrid. CPU is the P8 type with the sps alloy subframe. Fitted OK but had to relocate the relays. By the time that was done and the appropriate breather tubing was fitted, it was pretty tight under the seat unit. No room for the standard tool kit. Still, thats how I like it. Busy looking. DC. |
Thanks for the replies, I hadn't realised there were the two sizes, looks like favourite option would be to go for the smaller 748 one, which should hopefully be big enough - do they collect that much in use? cheers, Pete |
it wont catch F all they are over kill for a road engine and any oil residue that is blown up there will slide back down the idea is just to give it all a lot more space so that oil doesn't get blown into the air box like on the standard set up there are other options though like hollowing out the standard read valve and putting the valve into the air box like on a 748R that's the mane problem with the standard setup the read valve is to close to the crank case the oil just doesn't get a chance to flow back Shazam has done a good right up on it. have a dig about under his post's |
Pete, right now motowheels have one of these oil catch tanks for sale. Grab it while you can: http://www.motowheels.com/italian/myproducts.cfm?parentcategoryid=458%7CUsed%20Parts &productID=5302&showDetail=1&categoryID=458|Used%2 0Parts&vendoridtodisplay=0&filterFor=&collection= |

Where did you get hold of the pipework to plumb it in, did you use original Duc. stuff, or just straight lengths of stock car type water/heater hose? |
you can still get the top pipe that goes to the air box from Ducati but they don't do the lower ones any more you can get a good substitute from Halfords its has a flexi middle so wont crease when going from the crank to the breather |
