Fuses

Ok, dumb-ass question for the evening...

You have a fuse with, say, 20A written on it - is that:
a. 20 amp continuous current or
b. 20 amp fusing current

?

20A continuous. More often than not it will take a fair bit more than that to pop it unless they are of the quick blow variety - which they rarely are in automotive uses. This is cos peak current transients can be quite a bit in excess of the rated fuse value.

Hmmm......

Age, it seems like you'll have to ask twpd veeeeery nicely if you can have a B!

twpd, yep as I understand, automotive fuses tend to blow at double the continuous current.
