All this 1098 chat has got me thinking

150bhp is way too much. My 800ss road bike has bang on 80 rwbhp and it's brilliant on the road. I have little self-control and the 800 never feels slow or breathless even against litre 4's when I'm on it...I'd just get myself into lots of trouble or will kill myself with more than that.

With the money I'd spend on a 1098 I could buy a titanium frame for the 8 (light as fug), lots of trick bits and still have wads left over. Hmmmm.......

Bring back 2-valvers SS bikes (not these retro things they have atm) - the air-coled 2-vlv motor is a superb road engine.

2 valves are all you need-old skool is best

well I think there is a limit for what you can use on the road
but for me its not 80HP
not wishing to drag this thread into the 1098 GSXR debate
but I feel the same rider would get more out of the Ducati on the road Due to the way it puts its power out

Cut me some slack wilya? I'm trying to talk myself out of buying a 1098. I've got my racing to concentrate on after all

The 2V engines appeal to me for their mechanical simplicity (relative I know),lightness and clean looks.

The power is enough for me. This often sounds like an excuse for spending more money on a bike that has less power but most of the 2V-owners that I know have that knowing twinkle in their eyes that says it all.

For further proof, just ask the DD riders what they think of their steeds.

Totally agree with TPWD - my 749S is plenty for me on the road (too much if I'm honest). I'm waiting for the Aprilia RSV550 so I can swap my Duke for it...

The power on my 620 is plenty for me!
I only feel the need for more on the long straight bits when I'm getting blown away by the bigger bikes. But there's not many parts of any track where the straights outweigh the bendy bits, even at Assen, and that's where the fun lies!
I actually have more fun riding the 620 on track than I do on the 996.
Keep with the 800 twpd, you know it makes sense!

Don't worry NBS. I am. I think it's a fantastic bike. I've never given the 2vlv bikes a second glance in the past until I bought one for Minitwin racing. After having ridden my first 800 home up the A1 and nailing it against the stop I was impressed. Very impressed and I quicly realised I'd not been giving them a fair crack of the whip. Previously I've always owned 4vlv bikes - needless to say, I'm a convert now and prefer 2vlvs to 4. As they say...less is more ;)

The other good thing about them is the silly values they command - brilliant if you want to buy one. An 800ss for the price of an SV650? Best secret yet mate.

I dont think its the bhp, i think its all in the delivery.
Why - dunno really, i find it far more fun riding a paltry 60bhp NC30 nearer its limits that trying to wrestle a 130 bhp blade way above my own limits. Again, great fun on the 916 and RC30 which are around 100bhp over a 600rr making just about the same. granted the CBR is quick up top but the lack of any sort of midrange punch makes this bike hardly ideal for the road. the ducati pulls like a tractor with quite a slow top end in comparison. And as for the RC30 - well like i say its all about the power delivery and if you have ever ridden a 360 degree V4 (not the 180 degree like the VFR750 / 800) i think you will know what i mean
