748 Clutch accident damage...... A recent encounter with some diesel on a mini roundabout saw me and my beautiful shiney 748 sliding down the road, damaging all the usual stuff for a rhs slide (my ego, my pride and joy, my will to live etc)....and the clutch. This is my first ducati, so please excuse my ignorance: The dealers say that the springs, drum and back plate will need replacing, and possibly the plates as well(???). Though they also said that they are estimating the damage by replacing anything that looks even remotely damaged with new parts, but this wont be an insurance claim. Ill be footing the bill, and would prefer to do as much of the work myself as possible anyway (any tips on where to source fairings/parts most welcome). Also what is the usual nature of the damage to a backplate, and the problem this causes and will this be better of replaced as a matter of course? Is the clutch easy work on/ replace??- I'm farily competant with tools, just new to ducati's, and will I need any special tools?? Even better is there anyone out there with a standard clutch/parts just hanging around looking for a good home???? If so give me a ring. Im near Croydon/ Crystal Palace. 020 8406 1753 mob- 07884 420 770 Thanks, Scott [Edited on 4-11-2003 by Sb13471] [Edited on 4-11-2003 by Sb13471] [Edited on 5-11-2003 by Sb13471] |
Also send a u2u to DAVE HARRIS , he has a car repair business in Crystal Palace and is forever changing the clutches on his 996 so is quite handy and has all the tools, he may well be able to assist ... |
From the sounds of things, worst possible case you're looking at is a whole new clutch and a clutch cover... You could take this opportunity to fit a slipper clutch and nice race cover, all from TecMoto. Their cheapest slipper clutch is 540 quid, and a clutch cover will cost from 90 quid, depending on the style you want. As weeksy said, TecMoto will collect your bike and will (probably) fit the new clutch and cover for you for free - they're a great bunch of guys like that! http://www.tecmoto.co.uk/ |
