What do I do next?
 

Well after Daytona decided to "forget" to tighten the clutch centre nut during its service, it came off during a ride back to my house, at around 8,000 RPM!! :o
After having On Yer Bike look at it, they reckon it needs:

A hub,
drum,
housing,
pushrod
plates
clutch cover

The only problem is they reckon that at 14,000 miles these all needed replacing anyway (apart from the cover) and so DUK wont foot the bil (400 quid!!!)l - despite the fact I replaced the hub and pressure plate 3,000 miles ago :( :(

Have I got a leg to stand on? (IE was the nut coming off a potentially dangerous event) Is it worth arguing it out with them and Daytona, I am prepared to pay for plates only, as they were nearing the end anyway, but as far as i am concerned a hub spinning freely in the inside of my clutch has caused most of this so-called "wear and tear"
Will post pics of the clutch cover at some point too, its not a pretty sight! :lol:

So what do i do?

Surely the fact that the items are consumables is incidental, given that the failure was caused by a problem of their making? Plates are something of a no-brainer, but where things like the drum is concerned, I would imagine that the issue is also clouded by differentiating the damage caused during the break-up from the genuine wear & tear.

Personally, I'd offer to:

1. Pay for the plates (they're making a margin on these, remember!)
2. Pay a tiny percentage of the hub
3. Pay a larger perecentage of the drum
4. Refuse to pay for the pushrod, housing or clutch cover
5. Refuse to pay any labour

so why did they undo the clutch nut in the first place, if they were not replacing worn parts, if they refitted the original clutch components they must have considered them still serviceable.

No idea, I would have thought they are sposed to tighten everything down as part of a 12K service!!! :o

I would have thought that the condition of the parts before the "incident " was irrelevant as the bike was still in working order ,or else they would have replaced the parts before giving the bike back , Unless you where asked at the time of the service if they could replace the parts & you said No !
Then the way i see it its their problem ,but it no use coming over nasty ,I would offer to pay for the plates & maybe a bit of the hub !

But thats just what i think !!!!

I offered to pay for the plates, but I wont pay for the hub, as I bought one new after my crash at donny in august - only done 3000-3500 miles since!

Can't complain at the fact that I've had 14,000miles out of a set of plates, including 10+trackdays and loads of london commuting!!

I don't see what this has to do with DUK. Of course DUK won't pay for the parts, it's not their fault. It's Daytona's fault. Sounds to me like Daytona is trying to make excuses. Press them on it, they must pay, they are liable.

Oops , see your point on the hub , OK then just the plates !!!

Likewise can't see why DUK are involved !!!

lol DUK are involved cos they authorised daytona as a ducati dealer! :lol:
Anyway, I think Tony Cowley must be feeling the festive spirit because hes now agreed for Ducati to foot the bill, clutch plates n all! :sing::sing:

Think maybe the work was cleared because he did not have a leg to stand on !!
