Pipes again Ok spent a fruitless boxing day (well half an hour actually :D ) trying to fit my pipes i've come to the conclusion that my collector /centre section what ever you want want to call it are not the same diameter the front pipe is slightly smaller than the rear pipe and both are not quite 45mm (both are larger) i presume this is part of the "character" of an italian bike . question is where do i go from here? if i take it to a dealer they will only encounter the same problem i have an idea though ![]() this is the rear of the can itself as you see it has two cutouts to enable the link pipe to fit ![]() is there any reason why i can't apply this the 45mm end of the link pipe ?? |
Nigel Are they Termis? Why not post pics of the whole pipe and also see if the ends are round or ovaled? |
blue flame cans and as far as i can see they are not oval http://ducatisportingclub.com/contro...d.php?tid=5358 [Edited on 26-12-2003 by Nigel C] |
Fit them together first off of the bike!!! to check for fit. Make sure all joints go together, use copper slip if necessary. I find if you start from the rear ie mount the silencers square under the seat first along with the jointed section. then connection pipes and kind of finish with the manifold 4 bolts. |
Nige, have you tried putting the link pipes in the oven to warm them up, might make them expand a little. If not try taking them along to a local engineering firm and see if they can open them out a touch. |
i had been thinking about getting someone to do that pete, as you can see from the pic the inside of the link pipe is nice and shiny i have a 60mm flap wheel and i put that in there and stuck the drill on the fastest speed 5mins of that spinning round in there polished it up and also made it so hot i burnt me finger when i touched it :D. Powerbronze are only 10 mins drive from me and they have started making rearsets so they may have the correct equipment |
Nigel, if you have no luck at PB give tony a ring at sivcraft engineering, he used to make bespoke exhaust systems for ricardo vehicle engineering so he knows his stuff. They have a workshop at premier house hangar 1, shoreham airport. Tony lives at high salvington so I usually drop of any parts directly at his house. give him a call on the works number 01273 440909. BTW he's a HD owner, but don't hold that against him. |
Nigel - Picking up this thread and not sure I understand the problem. If you have a R there is no surprise that the 45mm is a tight fit... Pretty much all SPS and R have a full system hence 50mm headers. You would need a 50mm link pipe (and not a 45mm to 50mm). Also careful if you are trying to mismatch systems. The Corsa system is a complete different fitting to the standard system with the pipes fitting over the link pipe (and not into it).... typical Ducati that a Race bike has nothing in common with a road bike.... p:( [Edited on 9-1-2004 by pguenet] |
cheers for the reply pguenet everything is sorted now cut 4 slots in the end of the link pipe plenty of copaslip and they went on fine. it's a 99bip by the way and the pipes came off an r |
