buzzing tank

When I turn the ignition on (but before starting the bike) I hear a loud buzzing from the tank which I think is the fuel pump.

Is this normal for a 96 900ss or should I be shopping for a new pump before this one goes kaput?

Dont think you should worry - my '93 900ss fuel pump makes a fair amount of noise too and still keeps on going. I was going to change the fuel filter on mine but after removing the filler cap and housing and having a poke about inside - I decided against it since everything looked pretty clean.

I guess as long as the noise is consistant (primed) and the bike runs fine otherwise, it sounds ok.

thanks for the advice Frank.

One less thing to worry about. Now, about the frame welding, suspension, clutch, lights, brakes......:P

Iconic944ss 30-Dec-2003 22:52

Hee Hee....

Frame welds...check em all, esp headstock

Sus...overhaul front...White Power do a nice cheap (£250) shox for the back

Clutch - JHP do a nice upgrade slave cylinder to reduce the lever effort

Lights ..... Halogen or increase power

Brakes .... Better pads (check the board, Carbone Lorraine, etc) braided lines ( run one line down to wheel, then jump a one over/under the mudguard..... Nissin Master cyclinder or 6 - pot upgrade

Its all down to time/money/enthuasiam I guess.....

Good Luck .... Happy New Year.....

Nice 2 c another 2Valver on the site

Regards - Frank

mmm...all sounds yummy...

I know the money spent on upgrades will never add to the value (as evidenced by the guy I bought the bike from!). On the other hand, this is the bike that I have always wanted and I'm going to keep her forever!!!!

The enthusiasm is there but time and money is in short supply. Will hopefully get a bit of both in the spring....

Happy new year to you and yours. Drop me a line if you are in the docklands area - first drink is on me! (goes for everyone else on the board).

cheers, Chi
