paddock stand recommendations
 

Hi,
Any recommendations for a rear paddock stand suitable for a 748/916 ?

The DP one any good ?
Others better ?

You won't go wrong with the DP one. A bit more expensive then some of the other stands out there but it does have a bearing mounted axle pin.

Haggle for a good deal, most dealers should be happy enough giving you a discount. I ended up paying the ex VAT price for mine.

I use an Abba stand, find its fantastic for working on the bike as it lifts the rear so far in the air with minimal fall-over risk. Not the quickest thing to use tho and wouldnt be any good at a track!

Costs aboyut £100 so not much more than the standard items.

The FG stands that Ducati sell "as there own" are excellent. The best you can get really IMO. Harris also do some pretty good quality ones to.
Whatever you decide upon, make sure the pin is mounted in a bearing so it can rotate with the wheel.
The Abba stand is ace. Really useful for much more than just getting the wheel off.
Like Bradders said though, it's not as easy to use as the paddock stand.

I'm buying a new 'strada, the guys there said they'll sell me the DP one for £72 ish.

I assume any of the stands lets you take the wheel off ? not just for oiling the chain ?

Does the abba one pivot at the end of the swing arm or somewhere else, perhaps closer to the centre of the bike ?

cos I've seen a stand that has spikes that locate on to the frame on my firestorm, which lets you work on the front or rear of the bike .... I can see visions of rope attached to the rafters and no wheels !! :roll:

That's good money for a DP one.
That'll let you remove the wheel, lube the chain etc.

The Abba stand is the one you're thinkin' of. Clamps either side of the swingarm pivot.
You can lift the front of the bike, chock it under the front cylinder and then remove the whole front end if you like ;)

looks like I'm better off with an abba stand, need to find out if it'll work with a 'strada. I know the normal rear paddock stands are ok.

Another question .. wheres the best place to buy one ?

You can go to Abba directly. No cheaper than anywhere else, but their service is pretty good.
You'll need a set of adaptors for the Duke, but if you change the bike you keep the stand and buy another set of adaptors.

just ordered one from abba stands. £105 all in. strada needs an extra part to clear the pegs ...

Yep go direct to Abba, got my adapters for my 748s direct from them and was £5 chaper than M&p
