9** subframe interchangability!

I'm been thinking about changing my 748 Bip for something else, such as a 996sps etc..but I do need to be able to carry a pillion now and again.

With, for example, a 996sps (or any of the 9** mono range), is it possible (and simple!) to change the mono subframe over to a bip one and be able to carry a pillion? How many of the parts are interchangable...is it just the subframe (and obviouslt the seat unit) that would need swapping over?

This website will help:

thanks for the repies...but not quite what I'm after.

The link shows a Bip being converted to a mono...which is what I have actually done to my current bike. However...I want to know If I can go the otherway...from mono to Bip...particularly on a bike such as a 996 SPS?

I would have to change the subframe over to a BIP type...so will a bip subframe fit? Will the ECU etc locate OK in the new frame? Is there anything that could stop me from changing over the rear to allow for a pillion??

Has anyone done it?

Harv
Guido has done it to his 748r, I think he has a webpage on it.

I've seen it done on a 996 SPS, it required a bip subframe (steel), which was then modified to take the sps ecu, which I think is a bit bigger than a normal 996 one. The subframe stayed put all the time, seat units being swopped as neccesary. Appears the job is quite easy if you have access to a mig. Hope that helps :)

748 Daz did it on his 748R.
He had all the bip bits for sale recently.

As mentioned with the 996SPS the P8 computer mount is different to the one on the Bips which use the IAW 1.6 ECU, as does a 748R making the same job on a R easier, if you go for a 998 the computer is not a consideration as the 5.9 ECU sits on the side of the battery box.
