K&N Air Filter I want to fit a K&N air filter to my 95ss. Q: Does the filter fit into the box were the original filter fits or is it one of those that fit directly to the carb itself? Q:Do I need to mess about with jets and things? Q: What is the K&N model number for my bike? |
The filter fits in the airbox, replacing the original unit. You'll probably get away without rejetting, although you'd see more benefits from a Dynojet kit. Not necessary though. Part number is DU-0900 |
The K&N filter fits in the same way as the original but the cover has to be cut to let the air at it leaving nothing but a surround that holds the filter in place. Try and leave a bit extra of the cover at the front, just enough to stop water drips going into the filter tray. The difference fitting this filter and opening up the airbox makes is graet. The induction roar is fantastic, much better than my 748. For best results you should get K&N jets fitted as well and some fruity race cans. The filter you want is the DU-0900 and the jet kit is 81-9212, according to the K&N site for a 750. The 900 takes the 81-9214 jet kit. Dynojet do kits as well. For the 750 the numbers are DJZ-7203 and the 900 are DJZ-7201. [Edited on 21-2-2004 by jim flynn] |
Mr Flynn sir....... Ive got a spare airbox cover if you want to keep your original in original condition, that way you can cut a b;**dy great big opening to let the k+n have full benefits P+P and a beer is all it'd cost if you want! SSTU is right when he says the induction roar is great btw Nelly, will the 2000 ssie filter cover fit a 95ss?? |
and btw Jim I fitted the k+n, plus open cover, plus a performance chip and high level remus cans to my 2000 ssie and what a difference it made, Sound, performance et al DBs or what, now just got to run in the hi comp pistons and then sh*t orft a shovel, Im hopin' rgds mort:roll::roll: |

I'll attach a piccy of the back end of mine to show what an evenings work with a cordless drill can do - I didnt realise the 'trumpets' were missing on my airbox until I read this thread - but nevermind, more weight saved. Mine came with a K+N fitted already but I would of bought one straight away simply as they can be cleaned and re-oil, try Nelly first but I got my cleaner and oil kit from : PDQ Developments If u can afford it - I think in hind sight (a wonderful thing) I recommend going to a good tuning centre that has a dyno with a gas analyser, get them to fit your K+N and dynojet kit and then if there are any 'tweaks' that need doing (eg if the jets are a little out for your bike) they should sort it all out for you....... Sadly, I think you will be looking at £250 ish for all this to be done but hopefully, it would be worth it..... Cheers - Frank |
Cheers Frank I am going to look into that and see if I can aford it. It would be nice to get it done before I go to the Ring. |
