Digital Video Cameras
 

I've been looking at getting one recently - kind of decided on one of the JVC mini DV ones. It appears however that they dont come with any software for video editing.

Which software should i go for? I want to do all the standard editing stuff and burn it onto a CD (not a DVD) so it can be played back on a normal DVD player.

Any recomendations would be appreciated.

Anyone got any opinions on the JVC cameras? Cant remember the model number of the one i want but Currys etc are doing it for £349

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert but do work for Samsung - there was a bit of a clear out of some older stock - VPD31 or 32 I think. They were quite a bit cheaper than you are looking at so check out the spec at www.samsung.co.uk and if its the sort of thing you are looking for, drop me U2U and I'll find out if there are any left and at what price

The DSC Mallory video I did was done on Adobe Premier 6.5.

I am only really skimming the surface of what it can do cos it is a very powerful package.

There was loads on this in previous posts. Do a search on the old posts section. Phillip Mace of Highview Electronics has supplied pencil cameras to many of us on the board - superb product and customer service. Check out his website or see OBBC orange ad he regularly places in MCN.

Thanks for all the info guys - what i'm really after though at this stage is info on which editing software i should be looking at.

I've use Pinnacle version 8.
It's pretty easy to use and great fun......when it works. It might just be me but the software seems very unstable. (Much like myself really).

Well i've ended up with Pinnacle Studio version 9 which appears to be a very sophisticated piece of software - its going to take some getting used to i think.
The camera is a JVC GRD70 which has DV in and out and also AV in so i might be thinking about one of those small cameras soon!
Bit of a pain though, after having bought the camera you then have to go out and spend over £100 on software, tapes and a fire wire lead for it!

Has anyone tried the wireless kits? The idea I guess is that you wouldn't need a Camcorder on board.
Wireless kits
Seems ideal for racing. All you need is a lipstick camera and a very small black box (transmitter). Looks like the transmitter can handle up to 4 lipstick cameras.

Then in the paddock you need a receiver and you can watch/record the action on an ordinary TV/VCR. Not too expensive at £93 plus a lipstick camera at £80.
