Message for 999 / 749 owners , 998\'s too probably
 

I am thinking of trading in my 999S for a 749R , I was intending selling my 57mm system seperately or fitting the pipes , air filters and footrest spacer to the new bike and trying to do a swap with Ducati UK with the ECU for one suitable for a 749R.

I am being told that when you plug the race ECU into the bike , when the battery is reconnected the bike programmes the new ECU and it will then only work on that particlular bike , if you try fitting the ECU to any other 999 the bike will not even start :(

This means that if I sell my pipes to another 999S owner they (or me) will have to fork out £538 (plus VAT) for a new "blank" ECU :o

Since the 998 also used the same plug in ECU as is now fitted to the new bike this will probably affect them too


Has anyone else heard anything about this ?

I think that only applies to yellow bikes!!!!!!!!!

There have been a few ECUs sold on site in the last year and I summise the guys selling them have had no problems from re fitting their old ECU's or the buyers fitting them to their machines?

Totto bought a set off a mate of mine with the ecu but Steve has not tried replacing the ecu but fitted the new uprated one for his bike.
Totto is very happy with his too so not completely sure your being told truths?

As Yella says i got a set of pipes/Icu via him & fitted them with no probs , after fitting i had the dealer Re-set the C02 which was hardly out !

When you say will not work , do you mean AT all as in security ,or not work 100%
Mine seem OK ,will get it on the Dyno sometime soon

Not heard of this on Ducati's but its certainly the case with my car ( a Fiat). When the car is first started the ECU remembers the code in the ignition key and will only ever work with that key.

Why did i buy i Fiat? Well the honest answer is was only four years old, 30,000 miles, air con, electric windows, power steering, ABS, airbags etc for £3500. And its British Racing Green!
Its a Marea by the way.
Typical Fiat engine though, needs reving to the red line and beyond to make it go. It does it easily though, very free reving engines generally. I used to have an X19 some years ago and that loved to be thrahed.

Not really that into cars though, basically as long as it stops starts and steers that'll do me.
