And you thought Ducatis were expensive... (part #40984 of a long running series)

Just back from the dentist. Again.

I'm having loads of work done on my teeth as they're very poor through genetics rather than not looking after them. Damn you mother!

Anyway, I've had a titanium screw put into my jaw to fix a problem with one of my teeth, a new carbon fibre post installed with a new crown fitted and some remedial work to three fillings.

Cost?

Go on, have a guess!

£3825.

And no, they wouldn't have done it on the NHS as it's considered as "cosmetic" work, even though its fixing years of bodged NHS dentistry.

Oh well, at least once it's done it will be the end of my problems!

Just wanted to share that with you all to ease the pain a bit!

Sorry to hear of your loss (£3825)

I hope the pain of the treatment was not as great as the pain on the wallet.

I know, but carbon and titanium for a Ducati is so last week - I'm setting the new trend by having it fitted to the rider instead!

And and at least you can take it with you when you get a new bike :D

I have an Uncle who was able to fly from Australia to N Ireland with his family & have the whole famliy's teeth worked on ( Root canal work for him)
For the same price he was gonna be charged for his R/canal work only in Austrailia :o:o

£3825 for a titanium screw and a bit of carbon? :o:o:o

Should've tried Pro-bolts!

I'm sure Ripsnorting could've sorted the carbon as well

Not really...

<gory details>

I had the bolt fitted about 5 weeks ago under local anaesthetic. They make an incision into the gum and "peel" it back to reveal the bone where they place the implant.

I had the root of that tooth remove about 10 years ago - the dentist had been drilling it to fill it but without realising he weakened it. I woke up that night after hearing a loud "crack" but didn't think anything of it. I then realised that my tooth was wobbly - I'd managed to split it at the root, so it had to come out.

Anyway, because the bone had collapsed into the void left by the root, he drilled a pilot hole and then I had 9 taps of the hammer to split the bone. While conscious.

No it didn't hurt but it wasn't very pleasant!

The dentist then matched up a M3x8 (seriously!) implant core and put it in with a ratchet socket set.

The gum is then put back over and stitched in place - I needed seven in total - and left to heal for six months.

The bone grows onto the titanium to give you a perfect base for a false tooth.

Apart from the taps with the hammer and the clicking of the ratchet socket, it wasn't too bad at all...

So it's actually fixing ten years of problems I've had with dodgy fixes and patch-up jobs to something caused by a cr@p dentist in the first place.
