Dead 750,The saga continues

After all that hassle the swine still wont start,I'm completely clueless now.
It turned over until the battery died but still didn't fire up,a previous check made sure I've got a spark-but,what the hell do I do now?

Dave G 22-Mar-2004 13:18

Hurrah!!!!

Yes!!!!!!!!
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
Never underestimate the capacity of an idiot to make the most obvious mistake.
After turning the fuel line back on....,I got it to start!
It races on choke and cuts out without it,but at least it makes noise!:sing:
It runs as rough as a badgers bum at the minute and seems to have a farty backfire as it cuts out,but for the present I'm happy.
:D:D

New fuel now mort.
And this morning it turns over, and some almighty backfires....but its still not running.
Short of taking it to a garage I'm stuck, the fact that I got it to run(albeit roughly )yesterday and am getting nothing from it now is incredibly frustrating.

Anyone want to buy an ss?:P

Hang in there bud,

Check all the throttle/choke cables are seated correctly as I had something similar and it turned out to be this - kicks the carb balance right out straight away.

New / clean plugs always seem to help but, if all you have done is the Carb work
then theres your starter (oops .. or not !)

Good luck - Frank

The fact that it backfires must indicate that fuel is getting in some times, so may be the ignitions is not right . Plug breaking down on compression , HT lead broken, coil breakdown, has the tank been partially full and condensation got into the fuel line, kinked fuel line, blocked fuel filter. If its more than that then maybe it is getting it to an expert to sort it .4D

The plot takes a twist

Right,I may have discovered the cause.
After stripping it down... AGAIN!,I've found the o ring sealing the main jet was split,so I'm hoping that this was the problem, though there is the chance I've split it getting it back out and the original problem is elsewhere.
I've had several leads saying that it might be too much air getting through, but I suppose I'll find out.
The o ring is on order from Ducati Glasgow and will be a day or two.
The good thing to come of this is the fact I managed to strip it down to this stage in two hours, rather than the two weeks the first time, thats probably because the second time you do something you've used up all the swearwords and remember what you did before without having to read it in a book.
Its shocking to think I've had this bike for five months and have ridden it twice!
I think I'll have forgotten what to do by the time I get the engine going.:saint:

There is a lot to be said for Fuel Injection I guess.

Sounds like you might well have found the problem.

If it was too much air getting through wouldnt you see whiteish / funny coloured plugs?

Good Luck - Frank

Dave, as you've found out these o-rings are easliy damaged. When you put it back together with the new o-rings a smear of vaseline helps them fit in easliy without tearing (no smutty remarks please).
Also, the carbs are the same as those fitted to the TDM/TRX850 Yamahas. Your local Yamaha dealer may have had o-rings handy.
