Ventura luggage ? Any one got some pics of their ventura luggage fitted , looking to fit mine but not got any instructions (second hand) More concerned ablout the l bracket thing's Thouhgt they would just line up , but methinks the 998 is different than the 996 range ! Any info would help ! |
LOL! Don't worry about the instructions - they're absolutely useless anyway! I did mine by sizing the pieces up together as it's very difficult to tell from their diagrams. Hang on a mo and I'll go take a piccy for you... |
This pic shows the rear piece. You need to pop out the three rubber nuts which hold the undertray in place, then mount the rear ventura bracket between the undertray and the subframe. This is the hardest bit! |
With the rear bracket in place, all you have to do is bolt the side brackets on. These fit on the rear mounting point of the pillion brackets - which I don't use. You need to pack the bracket out with the supplied washers to get the right clearance. Keep checking by fitting the rack to make sure it all works ok. When you're not using the Ventura, remove the side brackets but leave the rear one in place - you can't see it under the seat unit. Have a search back through the old threads about tips for using the ventura - even the proper ventura luggage bags can mark your pillion seat. Drop me a line if you need any more help. |
Thanks Antonye ! I cut slots in the holes on the rear U piece so i could slide it on without taking the bolts (rubber whashers) out Do you just force the plastic undertray over the L bracket ,so it sits on top ? Pics are agreat help ! [Edited on 26-3-2004 by Totto] |
The ventura bracket will sit between the subframe mount and the undertray. You then put the bolt through from underneath and put the nut on the top of the subframe. If you take the rear bracket out and line it up with the bike, you'll see which three you need to remove - the side ones are obvious (these hold the undertray to the subframe) and the middle one is one of the nuts that holds the number-plate bracket in place, if I remember correctly. With these three out of the way, slide the rear bracket in between. This is the fiddly bit but you don't need to take anything else off to do it. Then you just use the supplied bolts to keep everything in place. |
The rubber nuts are no use really, so best toi junk them anyway. If you didn't get any bolts with it, just use any old nut and bolt that will go all the way through the undertray, bracket and subframe. The supplied nuts are nylock to stop them shaking loose, but you could use threadlock or double-nut them instead. |
