Help Please

Ok, got probs again.

Last rode it ('95 748bp) on friday, went fine, put it away as per usual, no problem.

Tried to start it earlier and it wont fire, it just turns over. Raised tank to look inside airbox and trumpets, when cranking there is no fuel being injected in (looking in whilst opening the throttle). Also there is no spark on either cylinder.
But the fuel pump does prime the lines when you switch on the ignition, so fuel is availible at the injectors.
All the fuses are ok (checked and replaced the lot, twice!) and all the relays are working ok. All connections seem fine as well.

Ive had it recomended that the fault may possibly be the crank angle sensor (If the ECU doesnt know where the crank is how can it time the spark and injector pulse correctly!). Had a good sniff of the ECU as well and it has a faint smell of burning, though this isnt a true sign of a fault.

Has anyone else experienced problems like this that can lend a brain cell or three?

Or does anyone have a crank angle sonsor knocking around that they are willing to sell me?

I am tres pi**ed off understandibly, but also because Ive lost £145 for a trackday tomorrow as well!

Any help welcomed, thanks in advance

i think jools had a crank senser problem that nelly cured for him
drop either of these a u2u they should at least be able to confirm the symptoms

Billythekid 29-Mar-2004 19:25

Yeah nelly had the idea that it might be the problem.

If anyone has one, I will drive pretty much anywhere in the UK to get it if I can get it tomorrow.

Same thing happened to mine about a year ago. It turned out to be the crank sensor AND the TPS!

Billy,

You could try a resistance check of the timing sensor, should be 680 ohms Plus or minus 15% @ 20 deg C (between -ve & +ve marked on the connector) but not in my opinion an infallable way of testing for functionality in the bike.

When mine failed, the bike suddenly stopped, then would restart then die again, eventually would fire but only run popping and banging.

You're welcome to the old one to see if it changes the symptoms!

Tried measuring the resistance and I get an open circuit between + and -. I assume the S is for screen, ie earth but I get an open circuit there too!

ps cheers for the offer pete, but I would prefer one thats a known good un :)

im going to brands as a photographer only tomorrow now, where close to there may have one? any ideas?

Managed to source the sensor at Protwins today, fitted it just now, job done.

Thanks to those at Brands today who offered their assistance and recomendations, and those on the site too!

A once again smiley Joel :sing:
