ST2 rear shock...
 

I have a pair of Motobags which fit in the rear pods, but on the ST2 in the R/H pod lives the remote shock reservior. Is it possible to reposition this ( like on the ST4) and make a bracket to fix to the back of the footrest hanger, or are there potential problems doing this.
1. I am not sure if the unit will pass through the frame tubes
2. Are there likely to be problems if I disconnect the hose to reposition the unit such as oil loss?
3. Has anyone done this?
I intend to move the alarm unit out of the left hand pod along with the scotoiler unit,
the scotoiler is going under the number plate with a bigger reservior

Phil......don't disconnect the hose!
It's got high pressure gas ( nitrogen I think! ) in it.
I think you'll find the reservoir will fit through the frame ok.
These pics should help to work out how to relocate it.

The Ohlins reservoir looks good on it's own but
Rockhopper was on about doing this to his ST4 & suggested cladding the now on show Showa reservior in a nice Red Bull can :lol::lol::lol:

Andy and Phil. the reservoir will go through the hole in the frame but the hose wont if you get what i mean! You will need to take the shock out to do it. I didnt bother when i realised thats what it needed. It was a few weeks ago when i tried it but there was no was i could do it withough taking the whole shock off the bike.

As regards brackets well it would be easy enough to make something up - me being a lazy bugger was going to zip tie it to he frame.

Yup!
Just been and had a look at an old one I have in the garage & the sticker on the reservoir confirms it contains high pressure nitrogen & gives the serious injury etc warning if you try to disassemble it.
If all it needs to swap the reservoir position about is to remove the shock, this is only a 20 minute job- or that's how long it took me to swap shocks over on my ST2...

I maight have a go tomorow if its only a 20 min job. I dont have a Red Bull tin ready though!!

So how did you get to the top shock mount Andy? I can get a hex bit into it but i cant actually turn it becasue there isnt enough room between the ECU and the bit of the frame that goes over the top.

Can't remember to be honest but it wasn't difficult . Think I may have just unbolted/loosened the ECU?
You only need to crack it then I think I used the ball ended part of my allen keys to wind it out.
One think I do know is that I released the bottom mount first.
Just had a look at mine but that's no help 'cause the 4S doesn't have an ECU there & there's acres of room to work in :D.

I've abandoned it for the day! Moving the ECU might work. I can get the hex bit in but the shaft flexes enough to stop me cracking it before the shaft hits the metalwork. If i dont go to Darley Moor tomorrow i might have another go.

I was a bit dubious about undoing the hose, I will ondo the shock and thread the remote through the frame. I feel a trip to the supermarket coming on for a Red Bull. at least it will match my 750ss which has a Red Bull can on the shock reservior.

It seems there is more underseat space on the ST4s than on the ST2.
