Thinkin of puttin the standard cans back on....... With all the difficulty over trying to insure the bike with non BSI approved, "not for road use" 50mm carbon cans, I though about putting it back to standard. However, i like the noise, & the seemingly extra power but want to be legal at the same time (due to impending new job also). What are the options? I think the standard cans were 45mm - is there a standard 50mm system I could buy? Its been chipped to cope with the carbon cans, so by fitting 50mm, could I leave the chip in? what manufacture the carbon cans are, i dont know - Chris Clarke fitted them from new & they were £700. they arent Termis but they look similar. They are 50mm straight through Anyway, I digress - What is the best way to be legal & have noise at the same time? [Edited on 10-4-2004 by lane748] |
A pair of these.BSAU aluminium stickers. |
Or re-core the std ones , or get a set of std ones on ebay & re-core them ! http://www.ducatisuite.com/superbikemufflers.html |
The later 996's came with a 50mm system as standard, as does the 748R, 998S and no doubt a few others. you could either go for the full system off one of these or just use the cans with a 45/50 connecting pipe. |
Ive got a pair of std 998s 50mm pipes?? if thats any help? |

Only problem with those stikers mate, is that the BS logo is always stamped on, never stickered. Some Police know this & I think the Insurance boys do too. |
Fair one.Could always plead ignorance."they were like that when i bought it and didn't know any better"? |
there is a guy not far from me who does sandblast the BSAU on the cans if thats any good all I need now is to find a man who does the BSAU for the visors and I've cracked it |
Baines Racing at Silverstone used to do a service where they'd take all the innards out of the standard cans and do all necessary to make sure they fueled right. Everything looked bog standard and sounded better whilst not taking the ****. Give John or Geoff a call there. |

got two sets of those with what is known around here as the BORA conversion, one set is my 916BP cans and the other is a pair of 996BP cans that are slightly lager than the 916 ones. They look standard but sound the same as any Alloy skinned race can with a 2" perforated core. They are also a bit lighter than standard. |
