Smoookking calipers Batman ![]() Having travelled down to the Box Hill meet today via the M1/M25 and back . On my return home, found my rear caliper in this condition. I heared nothing or felt nothing whilst riding home, may of used the rear brake twice,it was only when i rode the slip, that I felt the lever had no resistance . Where's to best place to get a quick replacment lads before Congleton in two weeks . Help! 4D |
Holy smoke batman, have you been riding that thing too fast lately  Is the whole thing knackered? I spose the heat has welded the pistons? I have no idea whether the rear caliper off your 900ss would fit and you could take it off that, but it probably won't other wise you'd have thought of it. You could always take the SS to Congleton of course, but you should be able to find a caliper from somewhere, got a couple of weeks. If you need me to give you a hand, give me a call. |
Tut Tut Fordie, is that metal to metal on the pads I see, should have been picked up at the service. They are not that expensive to buy brand new mate, I`ll get you a price Tuesday if you`ve had no joy in the meantime. |
Pete Has someone changed your brake pads lately? possibly your calliper may not have been assembled correctly, causing your calipers to overheat. Better check your disks as well. [Edited on 11-4-2004 by Karl] |
Just buy a new caliper, there only about £60 ish |
Fordie - Alan has got one you can have mate - off a 916. (have on loan if you like - or gissa drink sometime) Just re read post above - have also got std rear disc & other rear end parts if needed 4d. Can collect any time, or let me know - and can post (any not too heavy stuff) to you from work on Tues. CK [Edited on 11-4-2004 by CK and AK] |
Fordie- that's nothing mate. My 916 rear overheated, wore through the pads, wore through the pistons leaving them like a peeled banana and spewed brake fluid all over the back wheel.:lol: CK- if 4D doesn't take you up on the calliper please u2u me as I still need one. Mark |
Mines done that. The lock nut for the adjuster on the master cylinder was loose, every time the brake was pressed it wound itself in,until there was no travel left and the pads couldn't return! |
Weeksy ,thanks for the offer,Jools I don't know what you mean:lol:Mike if I get to plan B then your'e my man. Jasper, I will check that adjuster nut as I did take up some nutty **** last week cause the rear was'nt working very well although thats not unusual:lol: But as Charlotte has kindly offer to send me some used parts Ill go down that road first. You no what a bunch of tight gits we Southerners are (We get it from the Northerners) any thing to save a shilling (Ah now you youngsters can ask you mummies what a shilling is ) Thanks guys Regards 4D |
