Touring the 916 - Ventura and GPS Hi all, Having recently bought Ian Allgar's old 916 I'm planning some substantial trips, and have a couple of questions to run past you. Am not sure which Ventura bag to go for, for trips up to a week or so, packing minimally. There's the 44/56l squarish Rallye Euro or the 45l Spada (+ 35l Delta). The Spada seems popular, but does anyone have the Rallye Euro? The bigger size may be useful, for an extra fiver, but maybe looks a bit big once on the bike? On GPS, I have a pal who uses a smallish Garmin successfully on a 748, but I'm after something a little different. There's 15cm width on the top yoke and my current thoughts are high-end Palm (T3, great screen and it works in landscape mode) probably with Tomtom receiver/software. The trick will be mounting it neatly; has anyone done this or similar? cheers Andy |
Andy, I'd go for the bigger one for the extra fiver. You can always leave space empty but it's harder to find more space if you need it.... You won't really notice the difference in size once on the bike cos the Ventura system is so solid that it feels like part of the bike anyway. Just my twopennenceworth!! Guido |
Hi, I have always managed ok with the spada, it does make you have to travel fairly light though. I have ventura L brackets and pack rack for 996 spare if you need them. Half price (only used for one trip). Not sure if the 996 fitting is same as 916 though. |

Thanks Martin, but the products/discounts section of this most excellent website lists different part numbers, so the subframes must differ a bit. |
I've mostly got by alright with the smaller of the ventura bags, although a mate of mine has the larger one for his 'blade and he does then have the option to take more than two pairs of spare keks :D:D:D Go for the biggie and you'll prob not regret it. Besides, its as safe as houses once on the rack and big or small, its all the same aesthetically. No help on the GPS, Andy... Ive a very tatty map of France that's served me well though!!!! |
