power commander

Anyone use one on their SS? I've had one for a few months now, and admittedly I've not had it set up on a dyno, but I'm really finding it as good as I hoped.

If anyone has any maps they'd like to share I'd be happy to hear from you!

cheers,

Nik

I just installed one as part of an engine upgrade this winter. I havn't noticed any glitches in the fuelling so I guess it works. :)

Did you have yours set up on a dyno, or just install it with the map straight from Dynojet?

I was messing about with mine last night - had the PC in the garage and was playing about with different maps to see how they affected the idle and low end. I've found it to be a bit "lumpy" just off idle - not ideal at low speeds or when pulling away.

I've actually put the std cans back on and installed the map for that, and it runs just as well as with the race cans on. Bit quiet mind....

I think I'll leave it as it is for now, and at some stage I'll get it properly set up on a dyno. Wish I had a rolling road and a gas analyser in my garage, I'd do it myself!!

It was set up on a Dyno.

The standard pipes sure are quiet. I put mine back on at one time and my wife thought there was something wrong with the bike as she could hear the mecanical niose from the engine.:D

Good luck Nik!

Just put one on mine, almost all ready to rock and roll, hope there will be a noticable difference, got open race cans, open airbox and K&N, got all the maps from the Dynojet site.

So what sort of diff you noticing from before nik??

Cheers

Hi Steve,

Funnily enough I've just re-fitted my std cans and the relevant Power Commander map and the bike feels no slower than when I had the race cans on there. In fact I'd say it feels better at the low end of the rev range.

However, I've not got a K&N on mine (not convinced they're that great, or flow significantly more than a new OEM filter), so I think the map I had for the race cans wasn't running quite right for me.

Ideally I need to get it on a dyno, I just haven't got around to it yet.

Let me know how you get on - we might be able to trade some maps with each other. Shame there's not more people using them - with other bikes there's a thriving community of people all trying different maps.

cheers,

Nik

Hi Nik,

Got my power commander 3 usb about a month ago, fitted and uploaded a map from the website, definatley quicker but developed a hesitation and cough when crusing at 4-5000rpm so have unplugged it till i get it set up properley.
Got it booked in a Malton Dynobike next week who set it up 100%.
I was told from my ducati dealer to make sure the maps you upload are european maps and not US, probabley cos of fuel difference etc, trouble is there is only 1 european map on the Dyno website and this didnt work too well on mine.
My setup is 900 2001 ss, Arrow high level pipes, open airbox and k&n filter.

Cheers

Mark.

Hi Mark,

Mine's the same - it's pretty noticable at around 4-5000 rpm (in other words, right in the middle of the famed v-twin mid-range), particularly with a pillion, where the bike is under more load.

I've actually revert back to std cans with a power commander map for those, and it's better than with the race cans.

When i get back from holiday I'll get it on a dyno.

cheers,

Nik

Hi Nik,

By the way what fuel do you use?
Ive been using shell optimax for quite a while, have recently stopped using it and reverted back to standard unleaded and dont seem to have any coughing or hesitations at all.
Think i'll save some money and stick with standard unleaded, seems to go better anyway.
Maybe the Duc's dont like the high octane!!

Cheers

Mark.

I always use std unleaded in mine. I think I may have stuck some in at some point, both in the bike and the car, and couldn't notice any difference, so stuck with the usual. I can't see the point of it myself.

Nik
