Common theme 999 front end There seems to be a common theme running across WSB to BSB with setting up the front end feel of the 999 race bike. Emmett seems to be the latest victim, this weeks BSB round, after Frankies well documented problems in WSB. So whats the problem, and how different is the front and all tracking, wheel centre, and length to a 998? |
Don't seem to have a problem with mine, but then again the superbike racers are about 6 stone lighter than me:lol: Did I really say that, just before Cadwell:o |
now hang on Vman, he did say he was about 6 stone heavier - surely thats pushing the (weight) limit? |
On a more serious note, having ridden a 999r and a 998r back top back albiet on the road at a moderate pace I find the 999 steers like a 600, very light and flickable but there is less body wieght over the front and I am getting less feel through the bars from the road surface. maybe this is a deliberate trade off flicakbility over maximum lean angle stability??. Personaly I prefer the plugged in feeling on the 916/996/998 to the sitting on top feeling of the 999 but from the 200 miles I have riodden so far I probabley could lap faster on the 999 dave |

Now is that a:lol: or a  Very hurtful Vman:( |
I read somewhere a little while ago about the weight bias of the 999 favouring the rear more when compared to a 998 race bike, which itself carries a fair bit more forward bias than a road going 998R, as well as having a different trail figure. Although the set up of the 999 for the road appears to be quite good if it had a extra 40 to 50 bhp pushing from the rear it could well start to show some short comings in its setup, just like a 998R would. I would be interested in Lapmans view of his 998R when ridden as standard and then after fitting the longer mag arm, mag yokes etc. More info on race 999's please. |
will let you know how i get on with my 999R more specifically how it compares to my old 998R and 996R. i had a stock 999 for a day last summer when my 998R was being serviced and it out handled my bike in everyway:o amazing, hence me changing to a 999R:D |
