Most Preferred Rear Sprocket Carrier?
 

Buying myself some new Sprockets and Chain this weekend. Reckon on Tsubski Chain with maybe renthal sprockets. Difficult thing to decide on is what type of Sprocket carrier? Baines?, Renthal? Talon? etc. Would prefer one with some sort of backing plate to prevent cush drives from wandering (had no problems with my standard Ducati rear sprocket, so is this cush wandering as big an issue as made out?) Should the cush drives sit tight in the carrier, some carriers have a sloppy fit which seems pointless. Any help on the subject with recomendations would be greatly appreciated. P.s Are DID chains still dodgy?(!) Regards.

Had no probs with my STM one.

Sprocket Specialist, AFAM, and Renthal sprockets are interchangeable with each other's quick-change carriers. I would recommend getting one of these carriers because the range of sprockets is better and you'll more than likely find one when you're in a bind (i.e. at the racetrack). STM quick-change carriers are nice but you can only use their sprockets.

Also, AFAM makes steel sprockets. What's nice is that the carrier is still aluminum, so even with the steel sprocket, the weight is less and you still can have the durability of steel.

Looking at my Renthal one the other day I see the rubbers have started working their way out.
Is there a preferred way of preventing this ? I've new rubbers coming & a tube of Loctite at the ready.:o

The newer Renthal and AFAM carriers have the cush drive pockets with a lip. The original Renthal carrier did not.

That'll be my one then !:(

STM for me + DID ERV chain

While the Tsubaki chain is nice, it's bloody huge and probably a bit OTT for use on a 998 let alone a 748 like mine.

I'd go with a Renthal/Afam chain next time as they're only a little bit more (10% at most) and would zap less power through the chain.

Thanks everyone for their coments. Had narrowed it down to either the Renthal or Baines carrier, interchangable range of sprockets and on the Renthal carrier they had fitted a bush on the axle contact point which seemed a good idea. Lack of lip on the cush drives put me off first, but as mentioned they now have this feature, plus they are now under £100 including VAT. Still thinking off going for the Tsubski chain although will have another look at Afam and DID chains after coments on the size of the Tsubski chain. Thanks again.
