help panniers locked on! anyone know how to release non fango panniers from st4s when key does not appear to operate release, not used them in over a year, locked on no bother yesterday morning, last night key turns to release but still held on tight, have tried giving a bit of pull and push while holding key in release position but no luck, have opened box and found couple of screws on inside of case around lock but they don't seem to release anythig to allow access to mechanism. hope someone knows the answer |
Mine are fairly tricky to remove mainly as I forget which, way the key turns. Are you wiggling the key whilst lifting the handle ? Can you "Poke" the hinge pins out from underneath I might have chance to get mine out later and |
still go the idiots guide stickers on mine so can't go wrong on which way to turn, rotates the 90 degrees like it should even feels like the cam is locating just seems like catch is not lifting not realy any access to poke out pins for lock release likewise struggling to get anything past catch to try and operate release manually, hoped could access something from inside but can't see any access panel that can come off. |
I had the same thing. Took nothing more than a few squirts of WD40 in strategic places and waiting a few hours for it to do it's stuff |
by strategic places i take it you mean the catch to the mount frame? |
I think that you will find that you can get at the allen bolts that hold the latches to the frame (round the back) with a bit of care and that way you would be able to get them off the bike for better access. |
cool will give that a try. hopefully they wont be siezed! |
Mine have always been a pain to get off even from new, l think l lean against mine and lift at the same time with a little jiggle  |
Mine arent easy to get on/off or pen but always thought that was a benefit as you wouldnt want them falling off or open whilst you were riding along. Maybe I should get mine down from the garage loft and treat them to a spot of WD40 before the IOM TT in June. |
all sorted, removing catches from frame worked a treat, had to break locating "safety tabs" but screwed back on with thread lock so they'll not be going anywhere on there own. Think if washed and made sure removed all grit from arond sliding handle would not have had the problem in the first case. |
