repacking carbon cans
 

Has anyone repacked their DP carbon cans ?

I've had a set on my ST4s since new, and think its about time they were repacked (5 years, 32k miles). They sound great but my ears are still ringing from our trip over the bank holiday :rolleye: :lol:

If anyone can give advice on the best method to do this I'd be very grateful.

I realise I have to drill out the rivets, but is it easier to do from one end, or do I need to drill both ends ?
And should I wrap the stuff around the tube tight, loose, or what ?
Should I wire it on ?
Should I put as much as I can on that fits in the can, or just 1 or 2 layers ?

Finally, do the dealers do repack kits, or sell the rivets to rebuild them ?

Its easier if you completely remove the carbon sleave as most packing material come in the form of a mat.When I have done it in the past,I simply wrapped the material tightly around the perforated tube then slid the carbon sleave over.It was such a tight fit that wiring was'nt required.
I think the packing kits have been deleted from the Performance catalogue,but you should be able to get everything you need from A16 Road and Race.

I already have a roll of mat from aa16. I mentioned wiring in place as that is what I had to do on my 2stroke enduro bikes. If its not needed thats great :)

I best get my cordless drill on charge then ;)

Stainless rivets are easily available to rebuild the cans.

JohnW I will be interested to here how you get on and if you manage to reduce the sound. I need to to do my Arrow cans as I got done big time for the noise by the local plod (now run standard cans).
