Building a bike from scratch.
 

Toying with the idea of getting a 998 frame and building it up as a track bike. Need some pointers as to which way i should go. Rolling chassis built then fit engine followed by electrics, fit engine to frame then build up around that etc, you get the idea. Any feedback will be greatfully received.

Probably much easier/cheaper to buy a complete bike and remove and sell the bits you don't need. Buying bits and building up can be very expensive-it's not the big bits that are the problem but all the little hard to obtain bits that you end up buying new.

Thanks John. This has also crossed my mind.

If using a 998 frame it will have the 12mm engine bolts so not the best choice if using an earlier engine with the 10mm mounts
Otherwise I find it best to start with the frame, engine and swingarm all going together first. Ideally with the engine 150 to 200mm off the ground

Want to fit a Testastretta engine so narrows the choice down. Then got to decide which ecu t-bodies to use and how to wire up the electrics. Not as easy as first thought when you sit down and really think about it.

I'd go for the 998 Harness and ECU as the Battery, ECU etc are on the opposite side on a 749/999, and is designed for use with the CAN system with Coded clocks/ECU.

I still have a 998 50mm system for sale if you find you need one
