steering damper wanted Anyone got a steering damper that would fit a 620SS? |
Are you serious, Tom? I can't imagine ever needing one mate..it's just extra weight. |
Why? Shurely, no neeeeeeedddd!!! |
Try sticking a 583 into the front wheel - it slowed me down no end....... If you're worried about the wobbles coming out of Lake Esses before the hairpin at Mallory, it's the track not the bike. If you got the right line it wasn't a problem. Mind you, there's the little bump coming out of Druids at Oulton to look forward to... |
Just sold 2 never needed them. |
I think i've upset the geometry of the bike fitting a new shock (which aint setup properly yet) Every time i headed upto the hairpin i was pinned in every gear and it was shaking it's head a little just before the hairpin, until one lap i had the mother of all tank slappers full lock to lock ten times, it knocked the pads back and the lever came back to the bar on the brakes into the hairpin. no one else seemed to have much trouble so thought it needed a damper? |

I remember flicking the pads back in the calipers on the flip-flop after Edwinas going up the hill towards the hairpin. The bike resented the full-throttle direction change & shook its head. A second stab at the brake lever going into the hairpin solved the problem, no drama's. I've had it happen a few times on the 620, but never got on with a steering damper on anything other than the R1. Might be worth a try for Druids at Oulton, sold mine ages ago. Andy |
They all do that sir.... |
I Love steering dampers All my road bikes have dampers, they do far more than save tank slappers' (which they don't always!), My race bike hasn't got one, yet. I may fit one if I see one at the right price. a steering damper helps to keep the bike in line, can save tyres and makes the whole bike feel better in fast bumpy bends. Feel is quite important. BUT, don't use one to hide a problem! sort the problem then get one, The 'correct' set up is to have it set as high as you can before you can feel it. I say correct loosely because this is obviously personal preference and I like to have mine as high as I can before I can't steer fast enough around tight slower corners. This whole comment may be complete b~@ll@x but that's what I think anyway. Matt #72 (completely unqualified) |
