998s bits needed

I am in need of

2 inlet valves,
inlet valve rockers,
piston,
possible complete head but low mileage.

If you want to know why please read below.

Just bought a ben Bostrom 998s with 2k miles on her, the belts had been changed 42 miles ago and the vertical belt shredded itself, thus causing damage (expensive damage) bent inlet valves, valve guides split, possible bent piston skirt.

Hi had a interesting conversation from the doctor of dukes ducati john and he told me what had happened, the belt changer a very big ducati dealer, had loosened thebelt tensioners to adjust them, and there is a stepped washer in the back of the pully that sits inside the bearing had dropped out, they had tigtened the pully back up and sent it on its way. the problemof this is the pully then dosent sit square and the belt then tracks off line and rubs on the other pully which has sharp edges and shredded it. this was on the vertical barrel, i checked the other pullys by putting a steel rule over it and this is the same, the belt on the horizontal is shreaded to but luckily has not snapped.

The problem i have the belts were changed last year and the bike has not been used, just started up once a month and warmed up. so no come back.

Please all be warned of this. This is going to cost £600-£1000 in parts plus labour. a very expensive weekend.

I noticed a new piston on Ebay last week
Can't say I have seen many Testastretta heads off a 998 for sale
can bits from a S4RS or 999 be used

You should contact Chris at CJS Racing near Bristol.

He does a lot of work with Stretta engine and would have some parts left over. I think that he may still have my 998s inlet valves as I went one size up or they may be in my bin box. I'll have a look later.

I also have a complete set of opening rockers (x8) if interested. I had those changed for 749R ones as I fitted the cams of a 749R in the 998 (more lift).

U2U me if interested.

It seems this is not a one off.

the previous owner of my 998 had it serviced, and noticed rubber bits coming out of the belt cover by the time he had got home. Got the bike recovered and the belts were shredding, exactly as you describe.
Dealer was in the Herts area, I forget which one now though.

I hope you get the bits to sort it out at a sensible price.
