996 SPS
 

YES me again
I have found a 996 SPS , he will take my 916 plus 15000 SEK
opps £ 1000 which I think is a fantastic deal for me.
BUT you guys are there any problems that I should look at ?
Any good ideas of things to check BEFORE I buy ?
I have only seen it in a photo sp I may look tomorrow or Sunday so ANY help will be appreciated. I dont want the fact that I have been looking for one for awhile cloud my good senses, but do we ever have good senses when it comes to buying these DUCATI things

Well if thats the exact one Rick..it looks very clean indeed..Im not aware of any particular things to look out for than you no doubt did when you bought the 916..

Best of luck..dont forget to kick the tyres a few times to drag the price down...:lol:

there are at least 2 on the swedish ducati club website. Both look in good condition. Perhaps look at them to get a comparison. :P

That's one sweet looking bike and certainly appears to have been looked after!

Go for it - but try and haggle the price down "to pay for the next service" etc...

Make sure that you get the standard cans, the rear paddock stand and a cover with it - these were all supplied as standard with a 996SPS.

Make sure it is a SPS - the top yoke should have an individual tag on it, but there are a few copies out there. I'd get the frame number and check with Ducati that it is a pukka SPS.

It looks really good and is the later SPS that had the Ohlins front forks.

Just check all usual stuff and make sure that it has a full Main dealer service history etc... when was it last serviced, when were the belts last changed etc.... these should be done every 12months. If these haven't been done, get the dealer to service her before you agree a price.

The SPS's are really great bikes - they have great character and pull like trains, you'll love it......Good luck...

Oh..one thought...make sure it hasnt been stood a while...some sellers tend to think that a bike that has been stood/stored for a while makes it a more attractive proposition. In reality it can mean (worst case) the belts gluing themsleves to the pulleys, knackered seals, and flat spots on tyres.

I guess what im trying to say, is that if its been stood for 12 months and hasnt had a service because it hasnt done any miles..then it will be in need of a service even more so!!!!

Dukes liked to be used and dont like sitting around doing nowt. Ask Jasper..hes just had to spend a load of money on his 888 SP5 hes just bought because of the above...mind you, he deserves it coz he had so much of a flippin' bargain in the first place !!!

def check if its been standing,i bought one that had and its had to have all sorts of silly niggly things replaced cos i actually use it,ride it dont hide it is my motto!!!!

Looks a very nice clean machine, I`d love one in my garage.
