WANTED 748R valve covers

Hi,
looking for the 2 valve covers in order to fit my shower TB.
If somebody has them and don't need...

yeah you want to find them second hand because those would set you back a lot of money new (way over £100). Some guy was selling some on ebay way cheaper than that.

However, if you are planning to fit 748R TBs to any desmoquattro other than 748R the inspections covers will not suffice. You also need to skim some bits of the heads.

Alternatively, you may put some spacers that push the manifolds by a couple of mm and make that set up work. I ran into the same problem in the past and got such spacers made. I produced a small series so can sell you some if you need.

Hi,
yes finally, I decide to put a shower TB on the D4. It's not the easiest thing but I found it smart
So I have a little few work : modify the frame and adapt the TB for 916 SP heads.
Valve covers I found are around 100$ so I continue to look for. I would be lucky...
For spacers, I wasn't aware about but, in fact, that's normal.
They are spacers between TB and valve covers? What size are they? I may be interested in yours...

I think it's one of the multiple surprises I'll have....

Well they are spacers between manifolds and heads.
On 996 heads even with the 748 valve covers (that have a recesss for the 748R manifolds), the valve cover pushes the manifolds out. This is because the 748R heads are shallower around the valve covers.

Your only solutions are either to skim the heads to push back the valve cover or to put some spacers onto push the manifolds out.
I believe that I had the 748R TBs fitted using those with no further adjustment (I did not do it myself, the bike was at Nelly), the rubbers have a level of play so it should fit. At worst you might have to redrill the spacing plate to bring them slightly closer together.

Since then I abandonned that route and went 996RS dual injectors instead, so I have not investigated the subject further. I am eventually planning to fit those to my other 996 track bike special. But for now I am getting that one to run on standard TBs in the interst of time.

The plates I got made provide the right spacing on 996 heads to fit the 748 inspection covers. The inside of the plate follows the shape of the port but has been cut tight to allow adjustement to your actual port shape using a dremel. I got made a few spares so can supply.

If you fill flush, I also have a set of 996RS triple injector throttle bodies (60mm) for sale. Those aren't going cheap though.

For this project, I have 916SP heads and I don't know at all if they are similar with 996 ones... For the external aspect, I would say yes...

I wasn't aware of the problem you told. I though that with 748R valve covers, it would be "easy".

Can you send some pics in order to understand well the problem?
You may have a pair of these covers available?

PS: for the 996RS triple injectors TB, it's a wonderful part .... I would like to put in my living room. But I think it may be a great challenge to set up correctly a 748R injection on a 955. So a RS one... I won't be competent enough

PS: I also have a set of 996RS triple injector throttle bodies (60mm) for sale. Those aren't going cheap though

916SP or 996 must have the same set up. So you will most likely be running into the problem.

sorry I did not take pictures about the issue and now I have some RS dual injectors on that bike instead. I can show you pictures of the spacers if you want though.

I run 748R inspection covers on that bike which are staying put. I had to grind them as well (where they have threaded profusions). they are a little bit thinner and work better with the 996RS airbox that I use... evenso, the airbox still had to be cut out a bit to fit.

For set up, also think that:
- 748R throttle bodies have a non linear TPS - unlike the other bikes. So you wll have to rechip your ECU correctly.
- If you are on 916SP, you might be on P8 / SPS loom as well?? If you are, this is another problem as you would have dual injectors with sequential injection. Apparently you may be able to work from an early 916 Strada or something like that which was on P8 and single injectors. To be honest, I think that you are better to work from 1.6 ECU, 916 loom and probably a powercommander too.

Yes, if you have pictures of these spacers, I'm interested in.

The base project is a 916 Bipo so 1.6M and loom. But to build the 955, engine basis is a 916SP crankcases, crankshaft and heads.

I have a P8 and dual injectors TB but won't use them for this bike. No interest for this config, I though.
And for the ECU settings, a PC III USB would be my first solution (already worked with on my TL1000R). Just to find one.
But I've seen that Kamna can set Duc' ECU up also... In progress.
