nearly a 996 owner, need advice Hi guys (and gals) I'm afraid to say that i am currently a Suzuki owner :o but am in the proccess of changing over to Ducati. I need some advice tho to make sure im doing the right thing. Iv seen a 996 biposto in red, year 2000 on a W, with 2000 miles at a honda dealer, he is offering a fair price for mine in p/x and wants £6000 for the Ducati, the bike is obviously tidy and will come with full mot, the belts were done a few hundred miles ago. My questions are, it that a fair price for the Ducati? will the Ducati go up in value if i keep the miles low and in good order? and are there any major issies with this bike i should know about or check out before i sign my hard earned over? Also should i be condidering a 916 or 748 as an investment, or is the 996 best for long term return? Many thanks, Nick |

I would say in short that £6k was much too much for a 2000 996. That's easily 998 money. Good clean 996s seem to be going for around £4k. So, if you want a 996 you can pick one up for less. Or if you have £6k to spend you could get a 998. (Personally I wouldn't want an eleven year-old bike which had done 2k miles, either. That's either a lot of short journeys, or a lot of standing.) |
I agree with cobbet on the price, but so long as it has a full service before you run/ride it, belts fluids etc , it should be no problem. Chris:burn: |
That's very strong money for a 996 - but I guess it's all relative - it depends on how much moolah he's giving you for your rice rocket lol! As for investment, if buying a bike that holds its money is what's interesting you then a 996 at that money still has quite a bit to lose in the medium term. If your hearts set on the shape, you want to spend sub £6k and you want something that's going to hold/increase it's value then I'd be looking for a nice 916 strada, or senna. |
if you have not bought it then I would take this one: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2732400.htm Quite rare now to see one this good. |

Agree, I thought that looked very tidy. Striking how few 998s you see on the market. |
